3 yr old Black Silver Dapple Drum Horse Stallion
Imperial Griffin
Imported Black Silver Dapple Drum Horse Stallion

Griffin at 2yrs

Imperial Griffin or 'Griffin' is a singular stallion who needs little introduction or explanation. That being said I must emphasise that while his colour, confirmation and substance are obvious by the various images on this site or others - it is harder to display his temperament with static photos, or even video. In a perfect world prospective breeders would be able to come and meet Griffin and come out on trail rides on or with him, or at least see him in person to truly appreciate his calm (and sometimes slightly goofy) personality. Unfortunately time and distance precludes this in most cases, so I can but describe him.
Griffin is a wonderful, willing training partner who I know can be pulled from the paddock (he shares with two other stallions) and put to work immediately. There is no need for lunging or make-work to tire him, he is ready and able to perform immediately under strange or unusual circumstances. He is handled around on- season mares in a halter on a loose lead and is very respectful to both his handler and the mare. Griffin is regularly ridden on trails in amongst mares and young, excitable horses and still keeps his head. While he may not have the stamina of an arab or throughbred he has heart and will give to the last of his strength.
Upon first meeting Griffin at Dragonfire Gypsy I had no idea what an ideal stallion he would become, I am blessed to have him be my mate as well as my stallion. I never would have guessed his colour would be his least important asset to me!
Griffin's Colour
Griffin is a Black Silver Dapple, or chocolate palamino. He has a 50% chance of throwing this silver gene into his foals, so over a black mare has a 50% chance of producing a black silver dapple like himself, over a bay a 50% chance of producing a bay silver dapple and so on and so forth. This means amongst the treasure trove of colours he can throw are silver buckskin, silver smoky black, silver dun, silver perlino… the list is inspiring! Griffin's Extrodinary Father - St Clarins
The world's premier silver dapple stallion. He is literally used as the textbook example of what a silver dapple should be in 'Equine Colour Gentics' (D. Phillip Sponenberg, 2009).
